Here’s why you should be doing SEO in all of your content

“Content that does not get read is useless.”

SEO or Search engine optimization is the practice of ranking the website on a search engine results page. It is essential to show up in search engines, especially Google as Google Search, Images, and Maps drive 92.96% of global traffic. If your website and pages rank high on search, you will get a piece of that cake.

The aim is to be on the first page to be at the forefront of the consumers because it is very rare for people to click on the second page of the search results if they already found what they are looking for.

Here is a proof of the benefits of incorporating SEO in your content. This is an article that I wrote in June 2023 for the Philippine Department of Tourism highlighting some of the tourist spots in Iloilo, a beautiful province in the Visayas region of the Philippines.

I researched the SEO keywords that I used to rank this article, one of which is “Iloilo tourist spot”. When you enter the keyword on Google, this article lands on the first page of the search results.

Based on Brand TD’s analytics, from the date of publication (10 June 2023) until 10 August 2023. The article garnered 97 views with an average of 32 seconds engagement time, which means it is not a bot and the bounce rate is quite low.

From 10 August 2023 to 10 September 2023, the article gained 114 pageviews.

We saw a big jump in the number of pageviews from Sep10-Oct10 and Oct10-Nov9 data. According to Brand TD’s Search Console Insights, readers found the article by searching “Iloilo tourist spot,” which is the keyword that I ranked.

From 10 September 2023 to 10 October 2023 the article gained 209 pageviews.

From 10 October 2023 to 9 November 2023, the article gained 281 pageviews.

The sudden uptick in search could be because of the surge of domestic tourism due to the long holiday in the last week of October. The Barangay Elections were conducted on October 30 as well as the All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day on November 1 and 2, respectively.

Many Filipinos travelled to their hometowns to vote and to visit their loved ones as well as to go on a vacation. Based on the graph below, we can see the search peaking a week before the long holiday, which is almost five months since its publication.

What can we infer from all of these? It emphasized the need as well as the benefits of SEO articles in a holistic media campaign. Evergreen articles like this not only increase brand awareness but also serve as a relevant resource for travellers in the dreaming and planning stages of the travel funnel. Since the article will be relevant for a long time, it will bring web traffic for months or years.

Content that does not get read is useless. To ensure it plays a role in nurturing leads and contributes to your marketing success, it is essential to have people engage with and read it.

Content lacking effective SEO will have less traffic, views, engagements, and ultimately, less conversions. On the other hand, SEO without top-notch content results in a lackluster, unproductive website that fails to attract an audience or generate revenue.
